Threat Sensing
Spectral sensor solutions (S3) has been developing a broad technology base to address standoff sensing of potentially harmful compounds that might be present on the ground surface or in the air. These sensors can operate on their own or integrated into a suite of sensors, platforms and countermeasure devices to provide the optimal solution to the first responders and the warfighters.
S3 Laser-Based Standoff Sensors
S3 uses UV Raman spectroscopy to develop proximity sensors that can detect and identify liquid or solid chemicals deposited on surfaces, and IR elastic backscatter lidar to develop long-range, eye-safe sensors that can map and track aerosol plumes in the atmosphere. A summary of these two broad categories of sensors is provided in the table below.

Capabilities
S3 personnel has decades of experience taking a sensor concept from idea to design, prototyping, validation, optimization, verification and small scale production. Along the way, performance modeling tools, configuration management tools, design software, detection and identification algorithms, motion estimation algorithms, have been either developed or integrated into our developmental process. A summary of these custom laser-based sensor development capabilities is provided in the table below.
